Human Rights in the Occupied Territories
The Olive Tree Campaign
The olive tree, whose branch is a traditional symbol of peace, has in fact become a source of strife in the Holy Land. Hoping to make the orchards peaceful once again, RHR plants trees where they have been uprooted and in areas threatened by expropriation. By coordinating with the Israeli security forces and the local Palestinian population, and trough the physical presence of our members and volunteers, RHR helps guarantee Palestinians' access to there trees while reducing the number of violent incidents and acts of theft during the harvest season. RHR won a major victory in June of 2006 when the Israeli Supreme Court ruled in favor of its petition demanding that Israel guarantee Palestinian farmers access to there lands. RHR sells olive oil for Palestinians who encounter difficulty in marketing their produce.
